Freelance copywriters with attitude...
We Know Words might be one of the best groups of freelance copywriters on the west coast, but we haven’t had time to make sure of that yet. Whether working as a website copywriter or crafting email copywriting, we are extremely bright, talented, informed and fun. What more could you ask?
In fact, we're so damn smart, a lot of what we do as freelance copywriters is consult. Sharon likes to say that we know words, but the words are just the last 10%. What makes us so effective as copywriters is the 90% that happens first. Which begs the question: Why wouldn’t you hire us as your freelance copywriters? After all, you want the best copywriting possible, right? Don’t pay for empty words. Get words that work.
Sharon Long Baerny, MA
Sharon is a highly regarded copywriter, creative and experienced in many facets of marketing communications. She attributes both her success and expertise to a varied background and an insatiable desire to stay current with marketing trends.
Sharon has a degree in Anthropology, a Master's degree in art history and several museum internships under her belt. After graduate school, she founded, published and edited her own arts and antiques magazine. A nationally published author, Sharon was later made managing editor of the Puget Sound's biggest computer magazine.
She learned the ins and outs of marketing firsthand while publishing her own magazine. Marketing the magazine was a two-fold and complicated task: She had to market to subscribers and distributors to sell the magazine, and she had to market to advertisers to sell the ads. But she got hooked on marketing. She wrote her first Web site in 1997, and has been a copywriter ever since, founding We Know Words in 2000.
Sharon is now considered an expert in the field of marketing communications, in particular Web copywriting and email copywriting. She's the past president of the Seattle Direct Marketing Association. She has been written about in The Seattle Times and other local papers, and featured on the Creating Customer Evangelists Web site. She regularly speaks on customer-centric marketing and Web writing basics. She puts her copywriter insight out into the world via her marketing blog. She’s also the author of the small business marketing ebook "Marketing in a Minute."
In her personal life, she is the single mother of two gifted and spirited children, and she is switching from English to Western riding. She loves horses, horses, horses, Art with a capital A, country music, very old houses, very old barns, local food, Viognier, Jack Daniels and any chance to be by the water.
Mavis, Sassy Scribe
Mavis began her career in Los Angeles as a video producer during the mid-'80s. It was the hey-day of music videos and she found herself shooting films with famous recording artists like Little Richard. The '90s brought her to Nashville, Tennessee, where she honed her skills as a scriptwriter/producer for commercials, television programs, educational videos and historical films. In 1996, Mavis moved to Seattle and started Mambo Productions working as a freelance scriptwriter and copywriter, a producer for select projects and a "PR Chick." She joined the We Know Words team in 2005 to add some sass and scriptwriting savvy to our bevy of copywriting services. Mavis is an active member of Seattle Playwrights Studio, Women In Film/Seattle, The Recording Academy, The Pacific Northwest Writers' Association and BNI. She's also an awesome addition to our team.
Jill, Jazzy Journalist
Jill got her start in writing at the age of 14, when she was the editor of her junior high newspaper, writing about the hot issues of the day, like the cafeteria lunch menu. Later, with a journalism degree under her belt, she became a daily newspaper reporter, covering a wide range of issues. There isn't a beat she hasn't covered. An award-winning writer, she's been honored for her feature stories as well as in-depth news reporting. Eventually, Jill took her knowledge and sharpened skills and put them to work for herself. She built a successful freelance writing business before becoming a member of the We Know Words team. She brings a background in copywriting for businesses and story writing for magazines. When Jill isn't writing, she's caravanning her three young children around, teaching writing classes, coaching softball and leading Girl Scouts into the woods. She lives with her children and husband, also a journalist, in southwest Washington.
We Know Words: More effective than your average freelance copywriter, more knowledgeable than your in-house copywriting staff, and more agreeable than your typical agency.
